The maximum duration of a J-1 is 7 years but the visa is issued 1 year at a time (royal pain). Therefore there is nothing such as a transfer. When residency is over, if you get a fellowship the program files with ECFMG the necessary papers to prove that it's an accredited program etc It is ECFMG that sponsors you not your program/hospital. Each year the program informs ECFMG on your progress and based on that a new sponsorship for another year is granted.
After my first fellowship i was board certified. In order to specialize further I (and my new department) had to convince ECFMG that there was some merit in the whole proposal. anyway long story, they did sponsor me and I did another 2 years thus completing the entire 7 year period.
As for GC, my employer just started the process and insisted on choosing an expensive corporate lawyer they have worked with before. She is in no hurry and I don't know when I will even have a priority date let alone a GC. This is after 11 years here. such fun....

Why do not u go to another License bureau and reapply and see what happens? If the other license bureau issues u Maryland license then take it.Also call up OHIO license bureau and ask them what does "non renewable/non transferable" actually mean and tell them the problem u are facing in Maryland. May be they will say something which will help u when u go to Maryland license bureau.

May be its matter of whether someone looks your ohio driver's license carefully or not. but bottomline now, I am not able to get Maryland driver's license.

If everybody writes one letter per week to President O. and mail it using postal mail, soon their would be a buzz. We need that buzz now.

You can change the address of you I-485 application online at

I have done this when i moved at the end of May. I also recieved a confirmation mail that the address on my application has changed.

Along with changing your address online for I-485, it would be a good idea to send an AR-11 form and also call them and confirm all is well.

Red dots will not matter (even 100000000 reds do not pull hair), butthat filthy language hurts.
If real person who commented it is visible, then it shd be ok, so that we can deal with that fella.
When sush a system is in place, people may not leave filthy comments i guess.

I have this basic question. How would USCIS know that he had used EAD for the second job? As far as I know, the information submitted in I-9 doesn’t go to USCIS. During the H1 extension if he submits W2’s, Paystubs and all documents from the H1 employer alone, wouldn’t it get approved? Can anyone clarify this?

I just realised that there is the wrong expiration date on my i-94 when I came back from a visit to India in Feb 2006.
The officer did not put the date according to the 797 which expires in 2007 .He put the expiration date as per the visa stamp.
My visa in my passport has also expired in April 2006.
My company is filing for 1485 and the lawyer just noticed it .
What are my options ?

Here are some possible, quick steps that you can take. Get your own report, this might be useful , http://www.intelius.com/background-verification.html .
Call the county Police Department back from Idaho where they say you have a criminal record from , ask for a Finger Print check on your name or by your Idaho License , if you still have it. [ the reason for this is , if you ever have been charged of any crime, they first finger print you to check your records].
If you do not have any records ,the Police Station will be glad to fax over a letter stating the same. That should seal the deal of you being innocent.
Good Luck .... and don't worry much , these false flags do happen and yes they are a pain in the neck ....

Just today, started new contract job at Clients place with big consulting firm on EAD. On my first day in the evening I got a call from consulting firm saying my back ground check have criminal record from state of Idaho. Till now I never ever was involved in any kind of criminal act. They asked me to stop going to work till it is resolved. consulting firm says all the states and federal agencies cleared me where I last lived, except state of idaho where i worked for 5 months.
Frnds please help! how should I resolve this issue. I have signed a 6 month rental lease, Left my H1B employer depending on this job. More over to all this we are expecting our first child and my wife doesnt have insurence. I was so happy I got this break but now this false check.
Please let me know if any one was in this situation and got out of it successfully.

As per me, you really have to do "nothing"
1. You continue working with your present employer
2. Let the contract company get your H1B approved
3. After getting the new H1b Approval tell the contracting company that you will not join till 3 months as you are working on some important project, and able to join them ASA the project is complete
4. Wait for 6 months
5. After 6 months you will get EAD.
I did somewhat the same as above and it did work, a contracting company applied for my H1B but didn't join them for some technical reasons
The best part of this is you will get a CAP exempt H1B, which you can use it, if you run in trouble with your I-485

Does this hanging I-129 petition affect the 485 / EAD that we have filed.?

The only option you have is to get into the U.S. and start working for the employer who sponsored your H-1B. After you establish that you work for the employer, you may start looking for another company, who can then do a transfer with H-1B extension for you, or you can ask your original employer to file extension of H-1B for you. In either case, you did not loose any of the 6 year time. The time starts counting after you enter U.S and are in H-1B status.
